Gandhi’s Items bought by Indian Tycon

An international row over the auction of items belonging to Mahatma Gandhi has been averted after an Indian tycoon placed the winning bid.
The US sale of the national leader’s glasses, sandals, watch and bowl had caused an outcry in Gandhi’s homeland.

Bidding descended into disarray when the auction was called off moments after the sale had started.   But the winning bid of 1.8 million US dollars is believed to be from Indian businessman Vijay Mullya, signalling the belongings may return to India after all.  Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of the nationalist leader, described the result as a “miracle”.
